Scott Air Force Base is home to the headquarters of many major military organizations including the Air Mobility Command (AMC), the United States Army Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC), and the United States Transportation Command (ULTRANSCOM). Scott Air Force Base is located near Belleville, Illinois and was established in 1917. Scott Air Force Base is located about 20 miles east of St. Louis. If arriving by car, head toward Memphis and take Exit 164East at exit 19. Signs will lead visitors to the main gate, and lodging is on the right. If military personnel live on-post, children will attend schools in Mascoutah Community Unit School District. Housing at Scott Air Force Base is privatized, and all on-and off-post housing arrangements are coordinated through the Military Housing Management Office at 618-744-9880. Over 1500 homes were recently constructed to join the historic homes which also populate the base. The housing office maintains a list of all off-post homes for rent or purchase as well as available apartment complexes. Dormitories for unaccompanied soldiers are available as well. For those on a waiting list and needing temporary lodging, the Scott Inn will provide 15 days for incoming arrivals. The inn has 60 units for accommodate families, and reservations are made on a first come, first serve basis. There are a limited number of pet-friendly units are available. Vaccination records are required.
